PATTY JACKSON'S 4-1-1
WEEK ENDING: May 16th, 2015

We’ve got Empire news! The hit Fox series will return with 18 new episodes in its second season. Singer/Songwriter/Producer Ne-Yo will be writing music for the show. Patti Labelle, Chris Rock, Alicia Keys and Lenny Kravitz will be making cameo appearances on the show. You’ve got to pick up the June issue of Essence Magazine. The young male stars are on the cover. Jussie Smollet, Trai Byers, and Yazz the Greatest are the cover guys and they also have their own individual covers. In other Empire news, series star Terrance Howard is asking a judge to intervene as he continues to battle his ex wife Michelle Ghent. Howard was married to Ghent for a year and he says he was blackmailed into agreeing to an unfair divorce judgment. Howard says he was being blackmailed by his ex wife who had naked pictures and videos of him. He claims she was a racist who threatened to kill him and stole his money. What will the judge decide? Meanwhile there is still no word on an exact date when Empire will return.

Next year marks the end of American Idol. The 15th and final season will air in January 2016. Many people feel the show lost its mojo years ago. At its height the show drew in over 30 million viewers. But then Paula Abdul left, Simon Cowell left… Ellen DeGeneres Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey were brought in. The show, which once launched superstars Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia, Adam Lambert, Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard, was no longer turning out hit talent. The ratings continued to go down even though they brought in Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. What went wrong? Did the public just get tired of the show or were there too many changes and people lost interest?

Grammy Award Winning Singer Sam Smith has been ordered to rest his vocal chords. He won’t be able to sing for a while as he undergoes vocal chord surgery. He will be out of commission for 8 weeks. The 22-year-old singing sensation had to cancel his world tour.

Bobby Brown is no longer in total control of his daughter Bobbi Kristina’s care. A judge ruled last week that Brown would have to share control with the Houston family. Any decisions regarding Bobbi Kris will have to be made by the two families jointly. Bobbi remains in a state of irreversible brain damage. Sources say only a miracle could save her. On January 31st Bobbi Kris was found unresponsive, facedown in a tub of water. Her grandmother Cissy says the only thing they can do is keep it in God’s hands. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Cissy continues to blame Bobby Brown for all the troubles that happened to her daughter, Whitney Houston. Will the family ever be able to mend their fences and what will happen to the 20 million dollar inheritance that was left to Bobbi Kris?

Mike Epps and Nia Long are part of the ABC lineup as a midseason replacement. They will be starring in the comedy Uncle Buck.

The ABC series Black-ish starring Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross returns for a new season in the fall. The series will remain at 9:30pm Wednesday nights.

Actress Meagan Good returns to TV in the Fox drama Minority Report. Stark Sands and Malcolm-Jamal Warner also star. Minority Report debuts this fall.

We remember Errol Brown of the reggae influenced R&B group Hot Chocolate. Brown passed away in the Bahamas after a bout with liver cancer. Hot Chocolate enjoyed a string of hits including Every 1’s A Winner, Disco Queen, Emma and their biggest You Sexy Thing. Two of those singles went gold, and Brown either wrote or co-wrote them. Errol Brown was 71.

Our condolences go out to Whoopi Goldberg. The View moderator has been off the show as she mourns the death of her brother.  65-year-old Clyde Johnson died from a brain aneurysm. Johnson worked as a driver for his sister when she filmed movies. Five years ago their mom Emma died after suffering a stroke.

It’s the reunion of Floetry: Marsha Ambrosius and Natalie Stewart. They will be performing at the TLA, 3rd and South Streets, Friday July 17th.

Wesley Snipes’ new NBC TV show, The Player, debuts this fall. Produced by the team behind The Blacklist, the show is being described as an action packed Las Vegas thriller. The Player will air Thursday nights at 10pm against ABC’s How to Get Away with Murder.

Is Tiger Woods cheating again? Sources say he can’t help himself and that’s the reason girlfriend Lindsey Vonn dumped him after three years. Vonn wants to be married and have children and Woods was dragging his feet.  When Vonn found out about the cheating she decided to end the relationship. Woods is reportedly upset about the breakup. He doesn’t see his cheating as a problem because he seeks out other women as stress relievers.

It’s Bobby Brown vs. The Houstons.... Round II. Bobby Brown went to court this week to take over legal guardianship of his daughter Bobbi Kris. Bobbi Kris has been unconscious since being found January 31st face down in a tub of water. She is no longer on machines and breathing on her own, but according to her grandmother Cissy Houston, she has irreversible brain damage. Millions of dollars are at stake with Bobbi Kris’ inheritance from her late mother Whitney Houston. The Houstons, Grandmom Cissy and Aunt Pat Houston, do not want Bobby to have his hands on that money. Will a judge rule in Bobby's favor? Will he be able to do what’s best for his daughter?
