WEEK ENDING: October 2nd, 2015

Whoopi Goldberg says the ABC network is treating her like a slave. Goldberg has been butting heads with the show’s new executive producer. Whoopi has been left out of the show meetings, which take place at 8:30am, but it’s in her contract that she shows up at 9am. Producers want Whoopi to leave the show, but they will have to pay her millions of dollars. She has a year left on her contract. Sources say they plan to let Whoopi go by December and have her not return after the holiday break. Then they would replace her with Joy Behar as the moderator and bring back Sherri Shepherd…….permanently. Are we seeing the end days for The View? How much longer will Whoopi last on the ABC daytime talker?

Was there tension between Aretha Franklin and the Papal officials? Yes!!! The Queen Of Soul wanted to present the Pope with a boxed set of her father’s sermons when they were both in Philly for The World Meeting Of Families concert. Her father is the legendary preacher Reverend C.L. Franklin. According to sources, Papal officials felt you don’t give sermons to the head of the Catholic Church, and they refused the gift. Well, you know what happened next?!!!! Franklin felt insulted, but she couldn’t back out of the concert. So, she went on did her thing and left. It was very tense and very unfortunate because Franklin was very excited about participating in the concert for The Pope.

TV One is returning with a new season of UnSung beginning Wednesday, October 7th. The new season will feature Chante Moore, Kashif, KC and The Sunshine Band, Jennifer Holliday, Lakeside and Nate Dogg.

Show Me The Money!!!!!! Dru Hill Singer Sisqo had a huge solo in hit in 2000 with The Thong Song. But, in recent court filings, the singer says he is owed royalties to the tune of $3.6 million. He’s suing a firm called 27 Red Music. 27 Red Music collects publishing and royalty fees for its clients. Sisqo is asking for the $3.6 and another two million in punitive damages.

After 20 years of marriage, it’s over for Black-ish Star Anthony Anderson and his wife Alvina. The couple, who were childhood sweethearts, has two children. They separated last year. Alvina has cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the divorce.

We already know that Rocker Lenny Kravitz is talented with music and acting, but home design too?!!! The It Ain’t Over Til’ It’s Over singer has introduced a new home décor line, which is available online.

Get ready for the return of Angie Stone. Last year, Stone and her daughter Diamond made headlines when they got into a fight, and Stone knocked her daughter’s front teeth out. Stone is looking to put this unfortunate incident behind her. Meanwhile, she is hard at work on a new album, Dream, which is coming out November 6th.

The TV phenomenon Empire returned to FOX with unbelievable ratings. 16 million watched the season premiere, and a total number of 22 million viewers were reached after tapings were added. There was a lot going on in the season two opener. The plot moved fast…..too fast for me…I hope the writers let some of the plot lines breathe and play out. Terrence Howard proved how great an actor he is in that episode. I love this show! Let’s hope the ratings momentum continues. Shout out to area native Rapper/Actress Bre-Z who plays Freda, a gay rapper. Bre-Z hails from Philly, Wilmington and King of Prussia. Her new song, Same Song, just came out.

How Did Wesley Snipes’ new show, The Player, do in the ratings? Well the time slot is awful: 10pm Thursday on NBC. There is so much going on with Shonda Rhimes ABC shows on Thursdays and Thursday Night Football on CBS that it’s hard to compete. In the show’s debut, The Player had 4 million viewers. Will the show survive against the stiff competition?

Get ready for the next set of the Jacksons. Tito’s kids have a reality show on Lifetime. The series focuses on what is now the third generation of performers in the family. TJ, Taj and Taryll will be shown balancing performing and their personal lives. The show debuts October 2nd on Lifetime.

Look for covers from Rhimes; Viola Davis; Kerry Washington; Chandra Wilson; the cast of Grey’s Anatomy (James Pickens, Jr., Jason George, Kelly McCreary and Jerrika Hinton) and the cast of How To Get Away With Murder (Aja Naomi King, Alfred Enoch & Billy Brown). In the new reboot of The A-Team, women and men will be members of the team. Back in the 80’s, The A-Team was, at one point, NBC’s only hit TV show and starred George Peppard, Dirk Benedict, Dwight Schultz and Mr. T from 1983-1987. A 2010 film version starred Liam Neeson and Philly’s own Bradley Cooper. The new reboot is in development now with Fast & Furious Writer-Producer Chris Morgan teaming up with Director Tawnia McKiernan, who is the daughter of A-Team co-creator/producer, the late Stephen J. Cannell.

Taraji P. Henson is the Covergirl for the October issue of Glamour magazine.

Reality Star Kim Zolchiak-Biermann has been let go from Dancing With The Stars because of her medical issues. The original Real Housewives Of Atlanta castmember suffered a mild stroke, which revealed a heart condition. Zolchiak-Biermann, 37, is the mother of 6 kids. She felt that she could go on and dance, but Dancing With The Stars producers felt it was best to let Zolchiak-Biermann out of the show so she could get better.

Get ready for a big screen Soul Food reboot. The original 1997 ensemble movie, headed by Vanessa L. Williams and Vivica A. Fox, was an unexpected box office smash, grossed over $43 million and spun off a four-year TV drama on Showtime. Now, original Writer-Director George Tillman, Jr. is co-writing a script and will reteam with the film’s original producers Kenny and Tracey Edmonds. The new film is supposed to find the Joseph family somewhat fractured in this new generation of cell phones, text messages and social media.
