PATTY JACKSON'S 4-1-1
WEEK ENDING: July 25th, 2014

Finally!!! Some good news for Sherri Shepherd! As Shepherd prepares to leave the daytime talker The View on August 7th, she got news from a judge who decided to let her keep custody of her nine-year old son. Shepherd's ex-husband, Jeffrey Tarpley, took her to court trying to gain full custody of their nine-year old claiming Shepherd was a terrible mother who worked too much. The judge didn’t agree, and now Shepherd retains full custody of her son. Let’s hope she gets good news regarding her soon to be ex-husband Lamar Sally. Sally is dragging Shepherd into court demanding that she be a mother to their unborn surrogate child. Shepherd announced a couple of weeks ago, that she was backing out of the deal citing Sally only wants money. Shepherd says she was coerced into the surrogate agreement, and that Sally should take responsibility since it IS his sperm and NOT her eggs. Sally has accused Shepherd of not being a good Christian because she backed out of the deal. Shepherd realizes she has made a major mistake.....again! She just wants to put this marriage drama behind her and get on with her life.

Get Ready for The Best Man III. The Best Man Wedding is the third installment in the movie franchise, and is expected to debut in theaters April 15th, 2016. Last year's first sequel, The Best Man Holiday starring Taye Diggs, Morris Chestnut, Terrence Howard, Harold Perrineau, Regina Hall, Monica Calhoun, Melissa De Sousa and Nia Long, was a smash taking in over $70 million at the box office. Writer/Director Malcolm D. Lee is slated to helm The Best Man Wedding with the original cast reprising their roles again.

Finally, “Harper” himself is doing double duty. In addition to his work on the TNT drama, Murder In The First, Taye Diggs will be guest starring in six episodes of the CBS drama The Good Wife. The new season of Good Wife kicks off September 21st.

Saturday, August 30th is the wedding date for Basketball's Dwayne Wade and Actress Gabrielle Union. It’s going to a super private affair with no cell phones or cameras allowed. Meanwhile, look for Gabrielle Union in season two of Being Mary Jane. Filming just wrapped for the season, and the show returns to BET at the beginning of the year.

The cast members of The Best Man are already busy with projects. Morris Chestnut is hosting a new docu-series on BET. Vindicated airs Sundays at 10pm on the cable station. Vindicated is a show about men and women exonerated for crimes they did not commit. The show takes a look at their life as they adjust to life beyond prison walls. Chestnut also has a new show debuting on TNT called Legends. Chestnut plays an F.B.I. agent. Legends debuts August 13th on TNT at 9pm.

Chestnut's Best Man Co-star Nia Long is making history of her own. She has been named the first African American spokesperson for Elizabeth Taylor's White Diamonds perfume. When Taylor was alive, she made the perfume a household name with proceeds benefiting the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation. Long also has a new show on WE-TV called The Divide, which airs Wednesday nights at 9pm.

Actress Regina King is doing triple duty. She'll reprise her role in the CBS top rated sitcom The Big Bang Theory this fall. The Aaliyah bio-pic for Lifetime is moving ahead, and now The Queen Of All Media, Wendy Williams, is behind the project as executive producer. Actress Alexandria Shipp will now be starring in the movie. Disney Star Zendaya Coleman backed out of the project due to the controversy surrounding Aaliyah's family not approving, the criticism on casting and the content of the movie itself. Williams says the movie will tell the real story about the late singer, including her career and controversial marriage to R Kelly when she was 15 and he was 27.

In other Lifetime movie news, Cissy Houston is not happy with the fact that the cable network is doing a movie about her daughter Whitney Houston. Cissy says let her daughter rest in peace. Angela Bassett, Whitney's Waiting To Exhale co-star, is directing the movie, which is slated to debut on Lifetime early next year.

Past Marian Anderson Award recipients include Ruby Dee & Ossie Davis, Elizabeth Taylor, Maya Angelou, Norman Lear, Mia Farrow and Bill Cosby. The festivities will take place in November.
