A WDAS alum is getting a street named after him. The late Journalist Ed Bradley was born and raised in Philadelphia, and he is now getting a rare honor: a portion of City Avenue, a.k.a. City Line Avenue, is being named for him. The portion between Presidential Boulevard and Monument Road will be christened Ed Bradley Way. Bradley was best known for his 25-year tenure on CBS' 60 Minutes and for guest anchoring the CBS Evening News. He is near and dear to us here at WDAS because this is where his career began. The Cheyney University alum was a newsman and DJ at WDAS and worked with Louise Williams Bishop, Butterball, Georgie Woods and Jimmy Bishop, just to name a few. Bradley's impressive news delivery and coverage of the civil rights movement as it was going on in Philadelphia lead to opportunities in New York and eventually television. Bradley, who died of leukemia in 2006, has always remembered Philadelphia fondly when asked, and now the city of his birth has returned the favor.

Her radio career and her BET talk show were both cancelled. In a recent interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Mo'Nique stated that she has been blackballed for refusing to play in Hollywood politics. She says that it has been hard for her since winning an Academy Award. She admitted that she can be difficult, but the industry labeled her as tacky and arrogant. Mo'Nique said the famed Director Lee Daniels, who cats her in Precious, informed her she was blackballed because of her behavior. Mo'Nique along with her husband, Sidney Hicks, burned a lot of bridges in her career. Was her attitude and her demand the cause of her problems? Was it just her husband Sidney Hicks who has been described as difficult and nasty. I have interviewed Mo'Nique many times and we always had fun. I never experienced a bad attitude from her, but many people say her attitude had a lot to do with her current situation. Mo'Nique said she was supposed to be on the hit FOX drama Empire, and she was supposed to be in the movies The Butler and the upcoming Richard Pryor starring Mike Epps but those roles went to Oprah Winfrey instead. Now Mo'Nique is mounting a comeback. The 47-year old has lost a ton of weight and new she is launching a comeback. The independent film About is due out over the next year.
